I am a Portland, Oregon-based freelance writer and editor who covers the environment, science and the arts. I’m also a contributing editor at High Country News, a nonprofit magazine about the American West.

I’m most interested in how people interact with and value other creatures and landscapes, particularly those places many of us might think of as wastelands. In addition to High Country News, my writing has appeared in Audubon, Smithsonian, The Guardian, Western Confluence, The Living Bird, and The Last Word on Nothing.
